R-13 Clarinets
1955 saw the creation of the R-13. Under the direction of Robert Caree, one of Buffet's foremost designers and technicians, this clarinet quickly became "the legendary choice of professionals." Symphony players, chamber music players, soloists, teachers, band directors, advanced students, and amateurs alike love the R-13 for its sweet and fine tone color, its power in all registers, its sensitivity that promotes an immediate response, and the always improved intonation that the 14.64mm Buffet Crampon polycylindrical bore gives. RC Model Clarinets
In 1974, Robert Caree designed the RC model, a clarinet with a softer sound color and an easy response. By using undercut tone holes and the standard 14.64mm polycylindrical bore on the upper joint; a longer, conical lower joint, and an egg-shaped ream within the bell, the RC possesses a slightly brighter tone with less resistance. Silver plated keys come standard with RC clarinets. |

Vintage Clarinets
In 1996, Rene Lesieux, the research and development manager at the Buffet Crampon factory, designed the Vintage after he toured the United States and Canada. His travels generated numerous requests from players that wanted the same feeling and type of sound that they had with their early R-13's.
Unlike the current R-13, the Vintage has no metal tenon rings, a 12th register tone hole that is 1mm higher, a 1mm longer bell (which makes the 12th register more fluid), and cylindrical A and Ab throat tone holes (that give better response and sound emission).
The thumb F# is larger and the D/A holes are 1mm lower which helps with tuning. An adjustable thumb rest is standard. The Vintage has one cylindrical (66mm) and one conical (66mm) barrel and comes in a luxurious calfskin leather double case with plush interior
