Schilke Trumpets

Renold O. Schilke, founder of the Schilke Company, was unusually well qualified! Among his teachers were some of the best: Max Schlossburg, George Mager, Del Wright, Edward Llewellyn and Herbert L. Clarke. As a performer he was a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the WGN Radio Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the founding member of the Chicago Symphony Brass Quintet. As a teacher Mr. Schilke was on the faculty of Northwestern University, De Paul University, Roosevelt University, and he also had a wide variety of private students.

From the beginning of his career to the time of his death in 1982, Mr. Schilke was always very interested in the discovery and development of talent in younger musicians. He had a particularly keen insight into the problems the beginners encounter. He always maintained that the beginner and the more inexperienced were in need of quality equipment as much as, if not more so, than the professional.

After several years of designing instruments and serving as a consultant to several leading manufacturers, Mr. Schilke, in 1956, decided to devote his time to making his own instruments and mouthpieces. His goal was, as with everything that he did, to make instruments to the highest degree of perfection attainable.

Schilke instruments are custom built. Custom built is not merely a name. Schilke instruments are made to order, adapted to the individual by craftsmen dedicated to produce the finest instrument. No mounting jigs, assembly line, or acid baths are used in the production of Schilke instruments. Retail price does not reflect the vast number of skilled man hours that go into each instrument.
